Really cool product. Couldn’t wait to receive it. Love it. It took some figuring out how/when to best use the timers. It seems you can either use it to count down for example when baby last had a diaper change, etc., but if you set a timer for that same event, it erases your previous time when the timer goes off. Biggest thing: DON’T DROP IT!!! I mistakenly had it clipped to my belt thinking that the belt clip would hold it. I bent down to pick something up, it popped off, hit the floor, and landed it some way so that it broke the back-light button. Took it apart thinking it would pop back out only to find that nothing would work whatsoever when we screwed it back together. I liked the product enough though to order another one. I intend to give these as gifts for baby showers with the caveat to not drop them.

This is a marvelous product, if used at the proper time. With a newborn, this thing will drive you crazy (unless you need the night light) because you’d have to transfer all of the info. There’s no way to track even one day’s worth of data, so you can’t recognize problems, inform your pediatrician (e.g., # of diapers and type, # and length of naps or feedings, etc.) or figure out your baby’s patterns (I recommend the Baby Whisperer’s E.A.S.Y. Log for that.).
Once your kid reaches about 6-8 weeks and things stabilize a bit, you can rely more on the Itzbeen.
- It’s great for handing the kid off to other caregivers, including grandparents (who had no trouble figuring the thing out).
- The timers are cool. They can all be set individually. I use one to remind me to pump between “nursings.”
- The beep/blink is useful and it’s great that you can turn the sound off (which we do last thing at night).
- Love the multiple colors. My sister’s baby is 3 months older than mine and we’re together a lot. We never get the blue and green Itzbeens mixed up.
Proposed Improvements:
- Backpack ring in addition to clip
The thinness of the clip is great for clothing (and comfort of the wearer)but not for diaper bags. A ring clip on the side of the unit would give unobstructed options.
- Day’s Worth Data Dump
If it would store one day’s worth of data that I could download…woo hoo!
- More resistance in L/R indicator
Mine moves too easily.

Here’s the thing you need to know about this product: it works GREAT, especially for a first-time mother, or someone like me, who likes to time everything and have a schedule.
I loved using this item when I had my second baby. I saw it on clearance at Target, so I bought three because I thought it would make a great baby shower gift.
My first one broke almost right away. I took that back to Target and got a full refund. My second one lasted from the time my son was about a month old to now, and he’s almost 11 months. For whatever reason, it decided to quit.
I was hoping to use this timer for other household chores (baking, soaking laundry, etc.), and was bitterly disappointed that it quit working on me.
Although I found this item to be almost impossible to part with, especially when I put myself and my family on a routine, I was disappointed how poorly this timer was constructed. Get it if you’re not going to use it for more than 10 months. I’m not a “throw away” consumer, and I would not recommend to another consumer like me.

We got this as a gift and LOVE it. As new (first time) parents, it just gives you a few less things to think about. So helpful if your pediatrician is (like ours) adament that your baby eats every 2-3 hours (no more, no less). When our daughter is fussy, we can take a quick look at the timer for our first guess about what she needs. 99% of the time, the timer is right!! Get this and the book “Healthy Sleep Habits, Healthy Child” and “Happiest Baby on the Block” for new parents. All genius.

My husband thinks I’m obsessed with recording baby’s diaper changes and feedings (although the word he uses isn’t obsessed!). I like knowing how long it’s been since he’s eaten or been changed – it helps me figure out what he may be fussing about. In addition it’s helped me keep really good records about how many feedings per day – how many pees and poops – and I’ve been able to put together some really clear Excel spreadsheets and charts to trend how much he’s eating, how often and whether he’s hydrated enough, etc. and also help me figure out if there’s anything I need to bring up with his pediatrician on his well-baby visits. Yes, a bit overboard but it makes me feel more confident and that’s important too!
