This product has really worked well for me! My daughter used to love pushing her Barbie dolls in between the posts on our loft to see them crash onto the table below! Now we don’t have to worry about this anymore. She can’t reach her arm through these posts anymore either. I use window cleaner to clean the smudges

We have a very irregular iron banister with different sized spaces and bars. This was the perfect solution because you can place the tie-down holes wherever you need to and the ties it comes with are really long, so they will fit around large or small bars. We had to use a drill to make some holes further from the edge of the plastic because the hole punch it comes with wouldn’t reach, but it was very easy to do. I also like this product because it doesn’t take away from the look of the banister or obscure vision.

This simple product gave us the piece of mind to know that she was safe. My railing and bannisters were installed 6″ apart and, if my daughter lost her footing (which we all know NEVER happens as a kid is learning to walk — HA!), could have easily slipped between them entirely and ended up on the lower level. Pretty easy to install (I did it without my husband’s help) and doesn’t damage the railings.

This product is just a cleverly marketed plastic sheet. There is nothing innovative about it. As long as a baby cannot go through plastic sheets and the sheet does not hurt the baby, this product is guaranteed “5 stars” and that is what is happening here. I have used this and it works just fine. One thing that is going for this product: I looked far and wide for a plastic sheet that was thick enough to stand up by itself and resist tearing (like this product is) and could not find it anywhere. That is probably why this product is rather expensive.
I would like to recommend two alternatives, especially for outdoor babyproofing jobs (decks, patios…etc) and both of these are available at Home Depot or Lowes in the roofing/lumber sections:
1. Plastic roofing sheets (similar to this product – but they have roofing (wavy)contours and come in sheets rather than rolls)
2. Matrices (2×8 or 4×8) (Advantage: Fixing them is easy because you can thread the ties through already existing matrix holes).
You can find the “ties” to secure the sheets from the plumbing/electrical sections.
Note on the matrices: If your baby has incredible athletic abilities, she may use use the tiny matrix holes to climb up. My son has not shown an ability to do so yet.

I purchased Kidkusion Kid Safe Banister Guard, because in our 1980-built townhouse gaps between balusters are wide enough for our one-year-old to fall through. I originally was going to use acrylic sheets (Plexiglas), but, what I saw at a local Home Depot, was too thick and expensive.
INSTALLATION:
The installation of the Kidkusion Kid Safe Banister Guard was easy, and the plastic seems durable enough to serve for at least a few years. I was able to cut it easily with a utility knife and a metal square. There was enough product included in the box to do all of the areas in my townhouse that were unsafe for my son.
Included in the box are a hole-punch, a bunch of white plastic ties, a few plastic grommets, screws, and wall anchors to secure end(s) of the Banister Guard to a wall if needed. I bought a pack of black plastic ties at Harbor Freight Tools because wrought iron on my stairs is painted black and the included white ties would stand out. I did not use the hole-punch, because it can make holes only about ½”- ¾” from the edge of the plastic, and for my installation it would not work, so I just used my utility knife to make small slits for plastic ties.
TO BE CONSIDERED:
1. I was unpleasantly surprised by the fact that the leading edge was not cut squarely at the factory. When I measured the same distance from both corners of the leading edge and tried using a square to connect the marks, I noticed that the cut would not be at a right angle. Therefore, I had to cut the leading edge square first and re-measure.
2. When I imagined installed product, I thought of it as being practically invisible. However, even though I installed the plastic as tightly as I could, it still has some unevenness to it that causes reflection and distortion and makes it noticeable; although, this is an aesthetics issue, which is not as important as my child’s safety.
CONCLUSION:
Overall, Kidkusion Kid Safe Banister Guard satisfied my requirements: it provides the safety I needed for my child, it is relatively inexpensive, it seems durable, it is easy to install.
