These are the newest additions to the 75 gallon tank… Two juvenile Firemouth Cichlids! After my adult female firemouth and my blood parrot cichlid failed to produce babies for the second time, i decided that the parrot just isn’t going to fertilize the FM’s eggs so i went out and got 2 juvenile firemouth’s hoping that at least one of them is a male. After watching their behavior very closely over the past few days, im thinking that one of the new firemouths is a male, and the other is a female. I think this because one of them is significantly more colorful than the other…and it’s the more colorful one that chases the less colorful one around a lot. So even though there is still no way to be sure while they are this size, I’m pretty sure that i know have at least one male firemouth in the tank! Both of the new FM’s have been doing VERY well after the adult female firemouth finally accepted them being in the tank. I can’t wait untill these little guys grow large enough to breed because breeding firemouth cichlids is something I’ve always wanted to do. Once they reach maturity, I’ll definitely be moving a lot of fish around from tank to tank in order to give the firemouth’s more room to breed. But so far, they have been great, and ill keep updating their progress. and sorry about all the talking in the backround
Remember to watch in high quality. I got this tank one week ago. It’s the Eclipse System 12. It’s housing my 2nd betta fish, Comrad, and 3 adorable albino cory catfish (Kip, Kanu, & Kitt). It is also home to six fuzzy marimo balls. Funny story about Comrad. I wasn’t planning to buy a betta fish when I walked into Walmart to buy an aquarium heater for my new tank. But I saw the bettas sulking and most looked like they were very sick. But not Comrad. He was like an inch larger than the rest of them and I thought I’d save him. Oh, and HE NEVER FLARES. I dont know what his deal is. My other betta Culligan flares all the time but Comrad is very friendly and loves it when the albino cory swims up to him. Update (01/28/09) I’ve added one spotted cory. He schools w/the albino cory so I don’t think he’s lonely. Two days ago, added 1 very small (I think its really young) African Dwarf Frog. They’re all getting along very well, I’m happy to report.
